We sang in the sun, and laughed every day .. picking berries and taking walks around our grounds. Now, we'll be watching the leaves change and fall. Live for today, and we do it as best as we can. I try to maintain a daily photo journal of our life to capture the memories. Labor Day Weekend is the traditional end of Summer and beginning of Fall. This week, we cleared 12 dead trees and trimmed lots more. We also celebrated our dear companion Mr Lucky's birthday. Checkout some fond memories. The days of long walks, and picking berries are coming to an end! Even thou the lazy days of Summer end, Fall is a beautiful Season. The temps cools, water levels drop, the leaves turn many colors and the days grow short. I'm including 2 shows. The first includes our time cleaning up around the camp and the second includes our holiday BBQ. We're staying in Schroon River until November 7th until we travel to Myrtle Beach, SC for some family vacation, Thanksgiving and the final leg of our journey back to Tucson. Paulina, and her family, will be doing a Memorial Service for her Lola on September 21st. Then, Paulina and her sisters, as well as son John and Any will be visiting with us for some fun times together. I'll be udating this page from now until then to include more photos of Fall and of our memories. We enjoy our Camp and very own Park, no driving or people .. Beautiful sights, always 💑🐕🐾🐿🦆🐸🎃🍁🦃 The Mountains Call and I Must GoSeptember, and it's a beautiful Fall weekend. We're out and about walking our Camp and Riverfront. The walk includes my regular route around our Camp and Park. The Riverfront includes the trails on Schroon River with the path up to Point Lookout. We enjoyed our "Sunday in the Park", beautiful weather and we enjoyed some BBQ Beef Back Ribs. We're so excited to be living Fall in the Adirondacks. Included some live video of our day .. with some kids enjoying our timber roads who passed while we were out dong our BBQ. Fond memories of it all.

Green RiverOur river front property is located just below the main Camp and provides lots of peace and serenity as well as some easy hiking with beautiful scenery Summer Work on Our CampBusy with lots of repairs and landscaping, which will be completed before we leave in early November. Adding some videos of the current status for memories' sake. Clearing The Mountain TrailsThe timber roads were developed by the loggers who had a lumber mill on the property. The roads permeate the property, and provide lots of hiking trails. This show includes some pretty sights as well as areas that need work. A special treat includes the beaver pond we encountered on our adventures. Seeing the HeightsTodd took me up the mountain so we could discuss options and plans for next week's work. The timber roads permeate the woods. The highest point is right behind our main house, but we took an alternate route we've been clearing. Very pretty views and very steep hiking 😱 Son John E De Lorenzowould have loved going all the way but not me so much (lol) An American TraditionAmerica has celebrated Independence Day since 1776, and it is a wonderful way to remember all of our veterans and the many freedoms we all enjoy. This year was a 4 day holiday weekend. We enjoyed it all, the sights .. and simple events marking the holiday. The Adirondacks is considered by many to be the birthplace of it all. Although we love our summer life, the 4th of July truly represents the best of it all. It was fun being out and about. We had fun seeing our community over the holiday. Lots of people biking, hiking, boating, shopping and dining. The weather too did it's part in providing lots of beauty for us and all the many visitors and tourists. We too, enjoyed the great weather, sight seeing and a relaxing holiday time. Like many others we enjoyed watching the annual concert and fireworks live from Washington, DC. The fireworks were spectacular. See some of our memories of a special time in our special place! The 4th of July is the official beginning of Summer. It is, and has been, celebrated with lots of food and fun. Besides all the outdoor events, the main attraction is the fireworks and BBQ's all across the USA. Checkout a fun recipe for Chicken and Mushroom sauce, I'll be making Chicken Thighs and Mushrooms BBQ We too will be doing some BBQ and relaxing at home. I'll be adding some more photos of our day on the river and home BBQ. Walking Timber RoadWith all the property, we've got lots and lots to hike and roam. However, I use the old timber road and river front for my regular exercise and daily routine. Although I do venture in back of Jasmine's Meadow, the path is thick with overgrowth and fallen limbs and trees. Hopefully, Todd and I will get the main clearing of the Jasmine's Meadow, the path to the upper meadow as well as many of the pretty hiking spots done within the coming months. Meanwhile, I hope you enjoy seeing some of our nature trails. Making ReadyCleanup work and shopping for our BBQ Seeing Country RoadsGoing out for supplies is an adventure. We usually head to Queensbury, passing thru Warrensburg and Lake George. Lots of fun sights, including seeing the tourists and others out shopping. Checkout a typical ride, including some side roads and adventures. Finally, We CelebrateThe weather was beautiful, so we enjoyed time in the great outdoors. After my morning walk, we drove to a little town, Adirondack, on Lake George and enjoyed seeing the sights. Our community dates back to the early 1800's and is a very appropriate place to celebrate America's birthday. Although the 4 day holiday was traditional, it was a very relaxing and enjoyable way to celebrate and enjoy our 4th of July Then, we did our holiday BBQ at home ... family, fun and food! Checkout some of our photos for lots more. We're back and so glad to be here. Our drive today was only 2 1/2 hours from our stay in the Berkshires. The drive was beautiful, see a brief video of the scenery close to our place. Since we had lots of rain on the way, we didn't bother to take any photos on the road. But it's all very similar to our surroundings being only 100 miles south our our place. Now, we'll be staying until the first week in November. Son John plans to visit with us in the Adirondacks as well as join us at Myrtle Beach, SC for our vacation before we head back to Tucson in December. Our plan is simple, lots of outdoor adventures during the day seeing the sights of nature and doing lots of layback things, hiking along the river and our mountains .. and taking lots of photos of our exploits. I'll be adding lots of new photos to highlight the mountains, and our river fun. Our place is mid-century and very eclectic which makes it a fun place to explore and enjoy 👫🐾 We're heading back to Tucson shortly. I've included some fond memories of our Winter Times. Great times, but we're looking forward to our Road Trip. We'll be back in May for our Summer fun. Seeing Fall and spending Thanksgiving, Christmas and the New Year (all set in white for Winter) was a very special treat. As the saying goes "Everything Old is New Again". While we missed our beloved home in Tucson, especially the old times with family and friends, we got to meet and enjoy some special times with son John as well as Todd and Flo Olden (new friends). As I'm oft heard to say, it's not the destination but the journey. It's hard to let go of the past, but it's more important to enjoy our blessings and look forward to the future. We made a trip in November to our Camp to make some betterments and improvements, and got the chance to enjoy Winter again. It's been 17 years since we last lived in NY before relocating to Tucson in '99. Our plans are to use our place on the river in the traditional Snow Bird tradition, that is for Summer and Fall. However, we really enjoyed seeing the beauty of both winter and the Adirondacks. With life slowing down for us, we're enjoying our homes, nature as well as lots of home cooking and simple living. As usual, I'll continue to work on our photo journal of life. This will include lots of nature and home fun with family, including both Tucson and the Adirondacks. We're planning on returning again to the river in May. Last but not least, we enjoyed our road trip and we'll be doing the Blue Highway twice a year. This fulfills our dreams of really seeing the USA and some new and exciting adventures. Originally, we were thinking new log cabin, but now we've got real 2nd thoughts. We've come to more fully appreiate the mid-century, real camp we bought. Both Paulina and I share lots of nostalgia of days long gone of our memories of life in the Catskills and Adirondacks. Having added all the betterments and improvements, we'll postpone further consideration of the log cabin for some time (if not permanently). We now see our Summer Place as a real paradise. Our place on the river is set in the midst of lots of lakes, rivers and woods. It was a real plesture to see and photograph our community and neighbors. Slideshow of our time with Todd and Flo Olden ❤️️🎟 My visits to both Billy's 220 acre tree farm as well as our visit to the farm have been the high point of our stay. Todd has owned and developed the farm over the past 32 years. Besides the gardens and livestock, Todd maintains his lumber mill and crafts for his contractor business. Besides their well, they have a complete wood burning heat plant as well as several wood stoves and fireplaces for heating. Todd's approach to Sustainable Living is a model for us all. Both Todd and Flo Olden also produce a local farm stand as well as a school on their property for their arts, crafts and lifestyle 🏞🏡🐣. In addition to their organic eggs, we will be supplied with lots of goodies, i.e., pork, chicken, sausage, fresh and canned veggies, fruited Brandy, etc. Hopefully, I'll get some photos of the school, 3 weaving looms, etc .. and perhaps attend Flo's home schooling We'll be dring back to Tucson in February and we're looking forward to renewing our life and times with family! For many years life was filled with business, travel, hosting and dining out, but now we're even more excited living a quiet and peaceful life. Family, friends and our associates have mostly gone on their way, but we'll always treasure all of our many memories (and photos). Paulina, Son John, Lucky and I will continure to enjoy the mountains, rivers and all of God's Blessings as long as we live! Summer fun is filled with lots of outdoor nature, exploring our 149 acres and the mountains, rafting on the river and playing in our ponds, as well as using our camp to add some new fun (tennis/volleyball, ping pong, bbq, coffee at the Gazebo and decks)
We've been busy since November 8th, getting settled into our home oh Schroon River Road. Looking into our long-term options for our Snowbird Life in the Adirondacks, i.e., repairs, improvements, and coutry roads in the high ground. However, we've been enjoying the wonderful fall and winter times of our home and community. Enjoying the holiday season with lots of quiet, and serenity in the woods. Finally, we're settled in for a long winter's nap .. and some quiet time out and about. Days are filled with exploring the woods, river and our neighborhood. Nights are spent by the fire, enjoying the long evenings. Life in the Adriondacks is quite different than our beloved home in Tucson. Each of our homes and community offer unique mountain scenery and weather, We now plan on Winters in Tucson and Summers on the River. We will continue to enjoy the Adirondacks until our return to Tucson in March. Wishing all the best to our family and friends for the holidays, and always. Busy getting settled into our little house on the river. Besides making some repairs and stocking up for the winter, we're getting our main house upgraded. New barn and home siding with gray and white trim, roof, gutters and all new windows as well as a new garage door for the second big garage coming for Christmas! Then, we'll be painting the deck and wood surrounding our main house. Originally, we only intended minor repairs and a few upgrades. Now, we're doing the whole little village. The goal is to upgrade the buildings, roads and electrical. Detailed plans and schedules will be finalized by Christmas. Meanwhile, we're enjoying the country life and lots of local sight seeing. |
