I and many other groups sang lots of the oldies when we were getting started. One of our favorite groups and songs was entitled "Gloria" which was sang by us and many, many other groups. We also sang and did a demo of the Chaperones hit "Cruise to the Moon"
The Laurels, then and now!
Cruise to the Moon, Again
Back in '59 the Chaperones had a hit song "Cruise to the Moon". Shortly thereafter, Our group, the Laurels were formed. My best friend, Jack Carlson, suggested we try lots of songs and see how the songs went over with the fans. Well, while we did lots of songs by my Doo Wop Buddies, Jimmy Gallagher and The Passions, our biggest hit was our "Cruise to the Moon".
I've been friends with Nick Salvato and Tommy Ronca, and I'll be heading to Las Vegas to reminisce and get lots of photos, enjoy some fun time dining and enjoy some time in Las Vegas doing some real "Remember Then! Nick has a group called the Original Chaperones based in Las Vegas, while Tommy lives in Phoenix and also has an east coast group. The Laurels consisted of me (Second Tenor), as well as Vic Marino (Original Lead), Russ Ciloli (Lead), Tom and John Pancetta, Richard Maracina (Baritone) and Sal Beaumont (Bass). We had our 15 minutes of fame doing lots of shows with Jay & The Americans, The Cadillacs, The Coasters, The Dimensions, the Vibrations, and more. However, our demos were never released.
You can hear lots of the songs recently recored as well as the original "Cruise to the Moon".
We're planning on doing some catch up in Las Vegas sometime between September and Year-End! I'll be posting lots more by then. I produced a fun show with some favorite tunes by Straight No Chaser. Hoping to do an update of me and The Laurels one day soon?

I recently created a show for fun show casing several of Nick's recent Accappela .. check it out.
Adding Memories
My site now includes lots of memories of my Doo Wop Buddies, but I'll be updating my photos, shows and scrapbook to add lots more especially including the Chaperones!
