Lucky Lane
Enjoy listening to "Moonlight" by Sting, signs of times to enjoy together.
Show and Tell, more coming!
The photos below show some of our 149 acres, and we'll be adding lots more photos and music videos too!
This has been Paulina's Dream. And now, it's mine. I, too, enjoyed my youth in the Adirondacks. During my days there, I enjoyed living the log cabin and mountain life. Me, and everyone else, enjoyed the mountains, lakes, streams and ponds that make up the place where dreams abound.
I saw the old forts, cabins and rivers while hiking and dreaming. Mark Twain was a favorite writer telling tales of that kids of all ages who lived in the timberlands. Stories of a kid and his buddies, including his dog "Lucky" exploded in my mind then and now.
Today, we're building our own version of the adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Huck, and his faithful hound will explore the new world and hike the rivers and mountains looking for adventure.
Watch as we tell the tale, including our dreams of the home, and mountains, as our dream unfolds. I will be departing from Mark Twain's view of the world that was described in Mark Twain's "Huck Finn". Even the illustrator saw the dream somewhat different. Don't expect my view to be any better then Mr Kemble's description. I have a Grand Plan and will do my best to tell the tale as the blog unfolds.
MT himself hired E. W. Kemble to illustrate the novel, and reviewed his drawings several times in the course of the book's production. Most of his comments indicate how well MT understood the role the pictures would play in the book's popular reception. After seeing the illustrations for the first twelve chapters he complained to Charles Webster that on the whole "the people in these pictures are forbidding & repulsive. . . . An artist shouldn't follow a book too literally, perhaps -- if this is the necessary result." He was much happier when he reviewed Kemble's next set, chapters 13-20: "This batch of pictures is most rattling good. They please me exceedingly." As far as we can tell, MT censored only one image, of the King kissing a girl at the camp-meeting in Chapter 20. "It is powerful good, but it musn't go in," he told Webster; "Let's not make any pictures of the campmeeting. The subject won't bear illustrating. It is a disgusting thing, & pictures are sure to tell the truth about it too plainly."

We Begin
By now, you know the location and address of Paulina's Place. So, I will begin with my description. First, it's located on a river filled with kids and adventures. Second, Huck will hike the mountains, streams and ponds with his faithful companions.
Our current dream includes a brick mansion in the mountains, with the creek running along side the home. Our old swimming hole is in the outback. The new dream will include a log lodge in the mountains, with the spring running thru 149 acres. Our new home will be located on the plateau overlooking the lakes and streams atop our little mountain.
The plans have been set, including the basic home site, layout similar to our existing home. However, we will be replacing the outback and pool/spa with our existing pond at the home site. The real story will include Paulina and the locals helping us. But in my version of the story, the tale includes lots of imaginary characters dating back to around 1860/
The home will evolve as will all the structures, buildings, and water world as the story evolves. Sit back, and let me tell the tale.
At the present time, the land and roads are being cleared. A small village with 2 homes exits that is more like the '50s and the new landowners are planning there own site. The prior owners have left and moved to there own adventures in Hawaii. This part is all true. Carol and Matt have left the 2 manufactured homes, and other structures. We will be using them until our new home is finished. All of the characters and story will appear to be based from Huck's life and times. I can already envision the river adventures, and exploring the trails. In my story, we'll have a farm with lots of produce and fun stuff. I will be telling my tale while working at our General Store. The antiques I collect will be sanded and repaired, while I tell my story. The characters and fun stuff will be based on the people and events as they occur in our efforts. While my story is imaginary, the photos will be real. Paulina's efforts will take time and effort, while my efforts will all be imaginary. My story can be told quickly, while Paulina's efforts will take real time. So, please be patient while it all unfolds.
Miss Paulina has her plans for the crew to begin. Meanwhile, Huck has his dreams. Phase one is that the road into the property is called Lucky Lane. The road passes by the village and ascends 1200 feet to the meadow. This is the place that the new log cabin will be built and will be the basis of all our adventures.
The lodge and guest house will appear, with the adjacent world filling in as time goes by. Both homes will be built using the Tucson Mansion and Guest House as it's new site. Similar to the existing site, the new home will be approximately 10,000 square feet. We will also have 5 bedrooms, 3 car garage and a recreation area (swimming and lawn tennis). The lodge will be located with views from the top, and with the stream and swim pond next to the home.

The Road Up
Lucky Lane will lead up to Jasmine's Meadow. This is magical land that has been cleared and upon which the residence will appear. Grass, flowers, trees, views, and wildlife will abound.
Hopefully, we will have a small farm. Real or imagined, the land will have lumber and some cash crops. It will also have a place to harvest our blueberries and apples and corn. Huck and Lucky will enjoy cooking outdoors and making our hard cider (blueberry wine and mead). This ain't gonna have any sissy stuff, real mountain men will hunt, fish, drink, fight, laugh and get into lots of great adventures.
We await the next phase both in real life as well as in our evolving story.
Watch for our upcoming adventures, including some photos when available. We'll be adding more blogs here when our live begins on the river.
