We visited back in '15 when we were buying our Camp. We stayed at a small hotel named Friends Lake Inn, which we enjoyed. Checkout some memories of our sights and exploits. Although not as close as the Sagamore, we enjoyed seeing lots of local amenities.
The Adirondacks and Lake George
Memories, then and now
For many, many years the area has been a premiere vacation destination. Our town, Warrensburg, dates back to 1813 and is only 4 miles north of Lake George. The town is located about 11 miles up the road. We are about the most remote location from our town being that the next populated area is a town called Adirondack which is a 30 minute drive.
Back almost 100 years ago, our Camp was a timber mill. Then, a Fireman from Long Island, NY bought it and made it his home and retired. Meanwhile, his son Matt lived in the home, worked in the local timber mill, and raised his family in what is now our Guest House. In all, 3 generations enjoyed life on the river.
The Guest House is about 30 years newer than the Main House. It includes 3 bedrooms and 2 baths. The visitors also have the run of our Camp, enjoying all 149 acres of park-like amenities as well as the 4+ acres on the river.
I've included lots about it all, including lots of the main attractions and lots of our personal adventures. Click on the link for more information.
Besides residents like ourselves most visitors camp or stay at one of the many hotels. In fact, there's a camp just up the road from us who tried buying our camp but it fell thru. Frankly, our site is bigger than theirs and offers lots for all the nature lovers.
The camp near us and all the others offer lots of options, from simple tents to cabins. And, the local hotels offer even more.
When we were in the buying phase we stated at Friends Lake Inn, wonderful memories.
Family has stayed with us in Tucson and now at Schroon River. However our Guest House is now closed until '18 pending completion of the land survey, insulation, flooring, additional septic tank, etc. So, we are recommending The Sagamore.
The Sagamore, Resort and Hotel
The Sagamore was for a long time, my Dad's favorite "Get Away Place". Like generations of others, he too loved it all .. especially the proximity to Lake George. So, I decided to take a look and went for lunch after working on our Guest House's landscaping this morning. Now, having seen it all, I highly recommend it too.
The Sagamore is the closest to us, being only about 8 1/2 miles and only 10 minutes from our Camp. Driving is a pleasure, I head up our road and turn by our local convenience store heading up route 11 and into the town of Boulton Landing.
I'll be heading back myself, often.
